The Salt Lake native also will continue to practice at St. Marks Hospitals East Medical Building. He offers treatment for heel pain, sprains and strains, diabetes, orthotics, nails, calluses and more.
The University of Utah is limiting the practice of podiatrists in its medical facilities, severely restricting their ability to perform surgeries and ending their existing adjunct faculty appointments. University Health Care officials say the changes and transfer of oversight from the department of surgery to the department of orthopaedics are important for the U.s educational and treatment mission. In February, the podiatrists were notified that their specialty would be moved from surgery oversight to orthopaedics. Signed by the chairmen of surgery, Dr. Sean J. Mulvihill, and orthopaedics, Dr. Charles Saltzman, the letters said each podiatrist could apply for adjunct faculty appointments through orthopaedics, but their scope of practice would be limited to soft tissue, nail and skin surgery and non-surgical foot care.
The program was started a few years ago. Safeco was interested in getting into the medical malpractice market and saw podiatry as a good market. As Doman explains, “Podiatrists have been treated by many malpractice carriers as outside the traditional medical professions. Yet they have an equivalent type of education. They get a DPM (Doctor of Podiatric Medicine) after college and are board certified.” Safeco was approached by an agent who had a program, so they put together a product. Doman goes on to point out that the Podiatrists Program has extremely broad coverage, including: Protection for the DPMs professional corporation or partnership, employees and locum tenens (substitute physician) while serving on the DPMs behalf.

Call me slow on the uptake, but I had no idea that getting engaged would be so . . . different. There used to be a scifi series on television called Stargate, about a magic portal that was unearthed from some Egyptian remains. It didnt look like much — a big metal ring with a watery substance undulating inside, a bit like staring into the bowl of a public lavatory — but in fact it was an interplanetary wormhole. You could step into it and be instantly teleported to, say, the desert planet of Abydos, there to join battle with the evil alien Ra. One minute youre pottering about Planet Spinster, thinking youve just about got the measure of life. Then your boyfriend appears, all buoyed up after an England rugby win and a few tequilas, falls to his knees and — whoosh! — suddenly youre in a parallel universe. The natives on Planet Marriage are friendly enough — overwhelmingly so sometimes. At parties, for instance, I now get introduced to other women as Jemimawhos-just-got-engaged! This provokes a sort of tribal dance of feminine ecstasy, especially among the wives: there are squeals and claps and the drumming of dainty feet. Then they fall upon me, breathless with curiosity about The Proposal and The Ring. (We havent got round to buying one yet, I find myself apologising, and they look at me curiously — wheres the romance in that? — before rallying with questions about The Dress. ) I am grateful to these strangers for their excitement, and increasingly addicted to the warm glow of self-importance that it confers — but also a little suspicious. Can their delight possibly be genuine? Why should they care that someone theyve never met before and probably never will again is doing something so utterly commonplace as getting married?

Wayne Becker turned the marriage proposal into a fine art. When Wayne wanted to propose to Sara Martin, he took her to an art gallery opening in Wichita on Dec. 1, 2001. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court held that when an engagement is broken, the donee of the engagement ring must return the ring or pay the donor its equivalent value even when the donor breaks the engagement. Here, Lindh proposed marriage to Surman and offered her a ring, which she accepted. Later, Lindh broke the engagement and Surman refused to return the ring.

The Apartment Association of La Crosse Area Inc. has unanimously passed an alternative to the proposed rental inspection/ licensing ordinance. The proposal calls for the inspection of “owner-occupied dwellings” - which includes single-family homes - as well as rentals.”To me there is a difference between what someone does in their home that they own and what a landlord does in a property (where) he is taking money to provide a place that is clean and safe,” said La Crosse Common Council member Charles Clemence, committee chairman. “If you make your own wine at home, thats one thing. If you make it for sale, there are other rules. If youre doing something as a business, thats different than doing for yourself.”
As part of a project to educate homeowners on making their homes more energy-efficient, one Oklahoma City couple volunteered their house for a thorough inspection Wednesday to determine how much energy it was wasting and what they can do about it. Sustainable OKC, the local branch of the Oklahoma Sustainability Network, and Guaranteed Watt Saver worked out an arrangement where GWS will inspect four houses for free and present their findings at the groups sustainability conference in April. After about an hour-long inspection, Parker and Curtis Maxwell, GWSs Oklahoma operational manager, determined the 1,517-square- foot home wasnt in that bad of shape when it came to energy loss.

Acupuncture prior to the administration of surgical anesthesia can reduce the intensity and length of postoperative nausea and vomiting by as much as half. Acupuncture alleviates nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy or pregnancy. It incontrovertibly works against the pain following dental surgery.A million Americans undergo acupuncture each year for an array of reasons, ranging from relief of pain and stress to immunity and fertility enhancement, smoking cessation and drug detoxification. The panel judged such treatments as often worth trying, especially in conditions where biomedical interventions do not solve the problem - for example, chronic pain. The panel based its recommendation on the observation that patients have been reporting benefits from acupuncture for millennia. Moreover, although most uses of acupuncture still lack firm support from randomized controlled clinical trials, other types of evidence point to possible efficacy. These include animal and human studies showing biochemical and blood circulatory responses to needling. Finally, even if a treatment does not work - either because the patient is a nonresponder or the technique is truly ineffective - the risk of adverse effects is small.
WOODLAND HILLS, Calif.–(BW HealthWire)–Sept. 9, 1997–Health Net, one of Californias largest health maintenance organizations (HMOs), will offer direct access to acupuncture treatment as the next step in a planned expansion of its complementary and alternative medicine coverage, subject to California State Department of Corporations (DOC) approval. Home remedies rarely work. There are real, doctor-prescribed, FDA-approved, clinically tested medications to treat toenail fungus. These include topical Penlac or oral Lamisil or Sporanox. I have successfully treated hundreds of patients with these drugs. Answer: We know that home remedies like Vicks VapoRub dont always work. But we have heard from many individuals who responded well to dilute vinegar soaks or topical applications of Vicks or tea tree oil to their infected nails. Perhaps people who benefit from such remedies dont return to a podiatrist.

The World Health Organization (WHO), whose authority concerning health-related matters internationally cannot be challenged, has compiled a list of symptoms, syndromes, disease processes, pathologies, traumas and conditions that have definitely been proven as effectively treated by acupuncture. The WHO has also compiled a list of diseases, symptoms and conditions for which acupuncture has shown definite therapeutic effects, but more proof is needed to establish it as a mainstream form of treatment. Should a curious patient, insurance company or colleague require proof of acupunctures effectiveness, the following list is something you will want to keep on file. Its use is inevitable and will be invaluable. In an official report, Acupuncture: Review and Analysis of Reports on Controlled Clinical Trials, the WHO lists the following symptoms, diseases and conditions that have been shown through controlled trials to be treated effectively by acupuncture:

Noonan has nine years of experience in sales and marketing, specializing in North County coastal neighborhoods.
Real estate practice is a broad and widely defined area of the law. In a pristine sense it deals with the esoteric subject of real property law and titles. In practice the subject matter handled by real property lawyers is much broader. Many of the areas of law within real estate practice are areas of specialty themselves. Real estate lawyers examine and evaluate real property titles, handle real estate sales, purchases and other transactions, foreclose mortgages, represent developers and contractors in drafting and negotiating development and construction agreements, handle real estate financing, structure and draft the governing documents for planned developments such as condominiums, serve as counsel to community and condominium associations, draft and negotiate leases, litigate title, boundary, and other land disputes, and advise clients respecting zoning and land: use matters. The examination of real estate titles requires knowledge of corporations and other forms of business organization, wills, trusts and estates, and a practitioner handling transactions must understand contractual, business, and tax subjects as well. The subjects that are tested on the certification exam attest to this diversity. They are title issues; real estate finance; environmental and land use; condominiums and homeowner associations; landlord tenant; closings; sellers, buyers, brokers, and title insurers; real property litigation; taxation of entities and other tax issues; and ethics. Some hold an impression that at least some aspects of the real estate practice are not challenging, that the practice is increasingly title company, form, and paralegal driven, and that when business is light any lawyer with a good paralegal can Ado real estate closings. This impression is not accurate. As with any area of practice, successfully representing clients in real estate matters requires knowledge, skill, and experience. The diversity in real estate practice may mean that no one lawyer can be an expert in each practice area encompassing the modern real property practice or that are tested by the certification program. That, however, is not a reason to not seek certification. The committee recognizes that few lawyers are likely to possess specific and detailed expertise in each of the many subjects that fall within the scope of real estate.

The joys of flying on your birthday have been much discussed in this column: cakes, champagne and even upgrades can be laid on for the celebrant. But Kate Thorman of Oxford found that becoming 12 provided her with a Catch-22 problem. “So, on the one hand Kate is old enough to pay the adult fare, but on the other hand she is too young to travel without a paid escort,” says her exasperated father. At this point, Mr Thorman gave up and booked with another airline; then poor Kate found her birthday flight delayed by four hours at Birmingham airport. “Come back, Gorbachev, all is forgiven,” pleads Philip Robinson of Sheffield. “The last time I visited my friend in Minsk, this city was in the USSR. I flew to Moscow, took a train to Minsk, and all was well.”
THE FINAL vacation days of summer are rapidly approaching. Traveling with pets can be great fun, but if your dog or cat hates to travel, the trip could be your worst nightmare, and hers, too. What arrangements do you need to make? Some dogs and cats do perfectly well in a boarding facility, while others do better when they stay in their own home. For a pet who will stay at home, a reliable friend or family member who can sleep over in your home is best for a dog. A cat will be OK alone for a short time with someone regularly visiting to give her food, water and some human companionship. If you dont have a friend or family member who can come do this for you, numerous bonded and insured pet sitting services are available.

SYRACUSE - Absolute Home Inspection, Inc. owner Thomas Sherman wants his clients to know all the important details about their future homes. The home inspector uses a software program to produce an inspection report on CD-ROM that incorporates digital pictures as well as text. Sherman had the software program created so he could deliver a professionallooking inspection report.”If you see my writing,” he says, “youd know why I dont do handwritten reports.”Sherman entered the home-inspection business five years ago after an injury limited his ability to work in the home-building business. He invested about $11,000 in training and equipment before starting Absolute Home Inspection, Inc. The inspection equipment includes a series of ladders, digital cameras, a computer, and a group of detectors that seek out carbon monoxide or other harmful gases inside a home.
Buying a home is often the largest purchase decision a person will make. It is therefore not surprising that the use of home inspectors is increasing as buyers seek to confirm the physical condition of their purchases. Home inspectors, however, have often been referred to as “deal killers” by real estate licensees because they have, on occasion, been responsible for stopping a sale of residential real estate that would have otherwise been completed. More recently, however, licensees are viewing home inspections somewhat differently. Instead of perceiving home inspectors as a potential source of reducing a real estate licensees income, licensees are viewing them as a way to increase future sales and reduce potential liability on the buyer side of the transaction. This study examines the role that home inspections play in the residential real estate home buying process. To date, no study has considered this impact on the sales process. Furthermore, the performance, process and other characteristics of those sales agents that have been involved with a home inspection in the residential sales process are unknown.

Competing against the big box retailers is a challenge for Kansas small-town businesses, but state programs can help their owners work toward success. “There are so many challenges that face small mom-and-pop or individual business owners,” said Jeanne Stinson, state coordinator for the Kansas Main Street Program. “Theyre faced with huge competition from the big box stores and most of them, I think, in Kansas have learned to live with that competition. Its not going to go away.” “Promotional activities are one of those four points,” she said. “We also look to the organization itself — their group. Who is doing this work and making sure that its adequately funded, that they have the ability to do their advertising and to make assistance to businesses.”

Objective To provide health care providers, patients, and the general public with a responsible assessment of the use and effectiveness of acupuncture for a variety of conditions A non-Federal, nonadvocate, 12-member panel representing the fields of acupuncture, pain, psychology, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, drug abuse, family practice, internal medicine, health policy, epidemiology, statistics, physiology, biophysics, and the public. In addition, 25 experts from these same fields presented data to the panel and a conference audience of 1,200.

American Specialty Health is proud that these students are committed to pursuing careers in complementary health care, said George DeVries, chairman, president, and CEO of ASH. These scholarships are a sign of our commitment to and encouragement of students who will be future complementary health care providers.

Question: I am a podiatrist, and I would like to comment on toenail fungus and treatment. When you write “Home remedies dont always work,” you imply that sometimes they do work. This is untrue.

Its not precisely a travel guide, but its a good guide for travelers who visit historic sites. Did you know the Traditional Lincoln Birthplace Cabin in Kentucky is a composite of several old cabins, none of which are where the late great president was born? Some examples he gives are lies by omission, others an attempt to be politically correct - but inaccuracies are rife, nonetheless.

The Salt Lake native also will continue to practice at St. Marks Hospitals East Medical Building. He offers treatment for heel pain, sprains and strains, diabetes, orthotics, nails, calluses and more.

According to the manufacturer, the International DuraStar Hybrid diesel hybrid electric truck has the capability to provide fuel savings from 30 to 40 percent on standard in-city pickup and delivery applications. The fuel efficiency can increase to more than 60 percent in utility-type applications when the engine can be shut off, but electric power still operates the vehicle. In 2006, International built and delivered 24 developmental hybrid units to 14 major utility companies across North America with positive results, the company said.
SPRINGVILLE — A new city ordinance cracks down on the way commercial trucks move through Springville and where they can park. The ordinance, which was passed earlier this month, amended the citys definition of a truck to include any vehicle — including trailers — that has a gross weight above 20,000 pounds, vehicles designed for the transport of materials more than 8 feet high and vehicles licensed to carry corrosive or flammable liquids that can hold more than 500 gallons or are licensed for a gross weight of more than 9,000 pounds. “Its an effort on the part of the city to clean up some of the ordinances we have,” said Springville Police Lt. Dave Caron. “The old ordinance was fairly vague.. this was an effort by the City Council to clean up the ordinance and make it more enforceable.”

AS status symbols go, it is certainly unusual. While show-offs the world over can boast a Rolex watch, only one can own the model with a fully functioning buzz saw - but it will cost them #20,000. British super-spy Bond was often seen in the films being kitted out with everyday items modified by fictional MI6 munitions expert Q. The Rolex, featured in the first of the Bond series to star Roger Moore, is expected to be the hot item. Other lots in the specialist auction include a blue towelling robe worn by Ursula Andress in the 1962 film Dr No, when she played the seductive Honey Ryder. It is estimated that the robe will fetch #9000. There is also a cream and burgundy pyjama set, monogrammed with the initials JB, with matching burgundy slippers, as featured in Live And Let Die. The highest price is likely to be for the spys trademark Aston Martin car. An Aston Martin DBS, from Pierce Brosnans first Bond movie, 1995s Goldeneye, will be auctioned for an expected price of #100,000 to #150,000.

Drug Rehab

November 5th, 2008

“These results are not surprising,” said Eric Mitchell, Founder of Drug
Rehab Referral, a company dedicated to helping people find the right
alcohol or drug treatment for their situation. “Thats why we provide
interventions. The majority of calls we receive are from distraught family
members. Sometimes theyve suffered through years of watching someone they
care about ruin their lives and their livelihood. Theyve tried to convince
them that they have a problem and need help, but are continually met with
resistance. They just dont know where to turn. Finally, they call us,” he
said.

Most alcoholics and drug abusers promise they will change but its
painfully rare. Pleas and reasoning from friends and family is not enough.
Only a well-trained and experienced intervention specialist understands
alcohol and drug abuse and what the addicted person is going through. A
specialist knows how to approach someone who is addicted, and how to reach
and get through to them so they can finally agree to get help.

“Despite the promises and the best of intentions,” Mr. Mitchell said, “most
addicts are just not able to do it on their own. They dont intentionally
break their promises, they just cant help themselves. The situation is far
beyond their control.”

DEFENCE chiefs have set up a special rehab clinic to treat soldiers for drugs addiction. Around 170 troops have so far attended the clinic after testing positive for cannabis or amphetamines. The “second-chance” move comes amid increasing concern over the 600 or so soldiers - the equivalent of a whole battalion - being lost from the forces each year over drugs. In the past they have been automatically kicked out.
Online resources include the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services
Administration (SAMHSA) toolkit. It contains step-by-step instructions for
holding events and activities pertaining to Recovery month so others can be
educated on how they can participate in overcoming substance abuse. This
kit lists groups and individuals to contact for partnering in the activity,
including healthcare providers, government officials and other influential
individuals. It also outlines how to plan and publicize your events and
activities through Public Service Announcements and other free advertising.
You can also get Information to distribute at the events to help you get
out the message about alcohol and drug addiction. And you can monitor the
success of your events and return the information to SAMHSA so others can
follow in your footsteps.

On a more personal note, for those who have a loved one with an alcohol or
drug addiction problem, Drug Rehab Referral is also celebrating a very
important achievement this month: the group has now helped 1000 people with
alcohol and drug addiction problems find a successful drug rehab program
thats right for them.

Drug Rehab Referral is
dedicated to ensuring that those who need help with alcohol or drug
addiction problems get hooked up with a drug rehab program that suits the
needs of each individual who calls them for help. To date, a thousand
people have been helped on the road to recovery, and a thousand lives have
been changed.

* Halberstams portraits of “children” who played roles central to the civil rights movement is already wellknown and celebrated. But its worth taking a close look at the anguish and exhilaration living, breathing-and sometimes unheroic-human beings faced during the events of the time. As Will Campbell wrote in his Sojourners review of Halberstams book (MayJune 1998), “It is about America: America at its best, America at its worst. The title of this admirable book is apt, for the bravest, most venturesome, and at times seemingly foolhardy acts of the civil rights movement were carried out by the young.” (Random House)
Juices and smoothies companies are locked in the battle for young hearts and minds. Exploiting the space left by the clampdowns on fizzy drinks in schools and on the advertising of those drinks to children, manufacturers are striving to copitalise on their health credentials to make the most of this new opportunity. It remains to be seen, though, whether the efforts of smoothies or pure juice companies will ultimately bear most fruit. Juice companies are making similar moves. The crossover between the education and retail sectors is becoming increasingly apparent as kids and parents seek out the same type of health drinks they enjoy at school to have at home says Richard Cooke, sales and marketing director for Calypso Soft Drinks. The company has broadened its range of varieties, pack styles and sizes to gain favour with mums and in schools. It also now offers pure fruit juices in cuplets, cups, cartons and bottles.

The latest bizarre episode in the life of George Galloway took place yesterday, when a rubber “stress ball” flung from an office window scored a direct hit on the Respect MP as he campaigned in central London. Mr Galloway, 53, who is standing for a seat in the London Assembly, was on the upper deck of his open-topped “battle bus” when the missile caught him on the temple, leaving him bruised. The ball was believed to have been thrown from a building in Theobalds Road, Holborn. A man was arrested and was being held in custody last night.
